Pablo García Sempere is an assistant professor in the Department of Didactics and School Organization at the University of Granada and member of the ÁREA HUM672 research group. His research interests are centered on inclusive education, creativity, and educational technology.

From 2003 to 2021, he was a teacher in early childhood, primary, and secondary education centers for adults. During this period, he had the opportunity to work in challenging contexts, with students in situations of social risk, and in a specific special education center in the province of Granada, Spain.

He is a member of the research team for the project “Pedagogical voices and co-teaching in university education. An inclusive research with people with intellectual disabilities”, funded by the Community of Madrid, whose principal investigator is Pablo Rodriguez, professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid, and director of the research group “University, innovation and social and educational inclusion”.

Educational Possibilities of the Inclusive Co-Teaching Model in Teacher Training

Workshop

We introduce an innovative teacher training model called “inclusive co-teaching,” aimed at training future educators in inclusive education themes, implemented at the Autonomous University of Madrid and featuring the participation of teachers with intellectual disabilities.

The model seeks to develop competencies that cover the entire human diversity, promoting a more inclusive educational system and training rooted in real-life experience. The approach emphasizes the importance of giving a voice to traditionally silenced groups.

Inclusive co-teaching is characterized by the collaboration in teaching between academic staff and individuals who bring their knowledge developed from their own life experiences.

Crucial to this model is the training of both university professors and experience-based experts. Initial findings suggest a positive impact on educator training, enhancing empathy, collaboration, and critical review of biases about disability, diversity, and inclusion, leading to a broader and deeper understanding of others.
