Case Study: A Green and Social Academy for the Arts

Presentation

WOB is an official study centre of the Warnborough College Group. This is a case study of its pilot campus with Waldorf and reform education.

WOB graduates learn key skills that help them succeed in life. With the Waldorf pedagogy used in WOB, we support a striving for inner human freedom.

Language and foreign language teaching: The interdisciplinary 3-language acquisition of language and foreign languages is, among other things, at the centre of pedagogy at the WOB and in the light of the “holistic development of the human being”.

Natural sciences: The precise observation of biological physical and chemical phenomena and the discovery of regularities is central, especially in the context of climate change and energy use.

Theatre and music: Human movement and expression are particularly encouraged at WOB across all years.

Rhythmic learning: The lessons at the WOB are partly conducted in periods and/or projects. Daily, weekly and annual rhythms are important orientations at the WOB for the structured yet flexible development of the individual.

Artistic and handicraft lessons: art, handicraft, handicraft lessons: A wide variety of artistic and handicraft lessons in all facets are offered at the WOB over the years. In this way, we promote a differentiated training of the will and the practical orientation of the pupils in life. The youth’s striving for sustainability, climate protection and recycling is also strongly supported and promoted in artistic lessons.

Lessons in artistic work with scrap metal, clay, painting, stone carving: Artistic work can begin with the creation and repair of tools for carving or gardening, and meaningful work is always sought. What can be embellished, where can non-meaningful behaviour be shown to society?

Agricultural impulse: As early as 1919 Steiner put horticulture lessons on the timetable. There was a strong school garden movement at that time, almost every school had a garden where the children could be active. Today, the standard is to treat fields, fields, gardens, and animals with respect and to take care of them. Go and think green!

The WOB is an “international green art academy” and aims to prepare its graduates for an ever-changing and changing world, actively engaged in conscious consumption respecting the environment and fellow human beings.
