Dr Luke Steinke

Dr Luke Steinke is a Professor in the Lumpkin College of Business & Applied Sciences at Eastern Illinois University. He is a driven university educator who is committed to a scholar-practitioner career track, serving industry workforce development needs while simultaneously teaching their craft and exposing students to their first-hand experiences.

Together with his colleague, Dr R. Lance Hogan, he has published numerous articles and books, as well as consulted with organizations to close skill gaps such as IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers), OPCMIA (Operative Plasterers’ & Cement Masons’ International Association), IRCC (California
Roofing Contractors), Mars Inc., Patterson Technology, and Pinnacle Foods.

He earned his PhD in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and has received awards for teaching, research, service, and leadership within the field of Vocational Education and Training.

Effective Instructional Design to Close Skill Gaps

Occupational training programs should be designed to close the skills gap by effectively preparing learners for work. To do that, the training curriculum must meet the employer’s needs and produce learners who can successfully perform within the occupation. This session will feature an overview of the DACUM system of curriculum development, which includes:

  • Occupational analysis
  • Identification of the key competencies and skills
  • Sequencing skills
  • Alignment to successful performance
