Kirsten Cuppen

My name is Kirsten Cuppen and I’m a teacher from The Netherlands. I started teaching when I was 22 years old at a primary school. After 6 years, I switched jobs and began to work at a high school and 2 years later, I started working at a  higher vocational education. My students were studying to become a mechanic and I taught them Dutch and Career Guidance. In 2021 I became Teacher of the Year in The Netherlands and I reached the top 50 of the Global Teacher Prize. During that year I started to develop the Talent Passport, an online growth document in which students can show who they really are.
This year I started at a school for students who want to become a teacher and I teach them pedagogical skills. My goal here is to do something about the teacher shortage by improving the image of our profession and increasing the quality of teachers.

Motivation and Talent Development with The Talent Passport

Presentation

Companies don’t hire employees based on their grades but on skills and abilities. Schools should adapt to this. That’s why the talent passport was developed.  A talent passport is an online growth document in which students can show who they really are. It’s a positively worded instrument that assumes that everyone has one or more talents and that these can be shown with the right tools and guidance.
In this talk, I’ll tell you how I came up with this idea, how it works, and our results.
