Teacher professional development: what works?

Presentation

Review studies (Darling-Hammond , Hyler & Gardner, 2017), Van Veen et al, 2010) on teacher professional development have shown that active participation and inquiry are important aspects in teacher professional development activities. In this presentation we take a closer look at the process of  teacher learning, as described by Clarke & Holingsworth (2002). Furthermore, we discuss our experiences with development activities that are based on these principles.

Applying adaptive expertise in the design of education

Workshop

In this workshop, we address the development of adaptive expertise for (beginning) teachers. In an Erasmus+ Project, we have been busy developing tools and building blocks that can help teachers to (1) become aware of the necessity of adaptive expertise and (2) help them in developing this expertise.

In this workshop, participants will do a simulation game around lesson design. Afterwards, we will discuss the different elements they applied and we will reflect on the adaptiveness of the approach.
